The ancient Puye Cliffs, a Registered National Historic Landmark, are located on the Santa Clara Pueblo between Abiquiu and Los Alamos.
For more than three centuries, this spectacular plateau was home to the more than 1,500 pre-historic Pueblo people, who farmed and hunted game there. The style of architecture utilized at Puye was the forerunner of Pueblo-style adobe construction.
The first dwellings were caves hollowed into the soft volcanic cliffs. Later, stone structures were built along the slopes and on top of the mesa. The inhabitants of Puye abandoned the area more than 400 years ago due to severe climatic changes, which forced them to settle in the lowlands of the Rio Grande Valley where the current Pueblo is built.
A professional guide will recount the stories of "the People" and the history of Puye during the ride to the Cliffs and while the ruins are being explored.
Please note, hiking is included in this tour and recommended attire is walking/hiking shoes and jeans.

Excavated more than 90 years ago, these ruins were once home to over 200 people, ancestors of today's Pueblo Indians. You may walk along easy paths past the remains of ancient Pueblo dwellings to the cliff dwellings where you can climb ladders to peer inside.
