Icewalk in Johnston Canyon
Get outside and enjoy a walk through a magical frozen canyon just
outside of Banff. Formed by ancient glaciers, Johnston Canyon
is a spectacular geological landmark. The thundering waterfalls
of summer are replaced by mere trickles that gradually build into
cathedrals of ice in winter. Start your tour in the depths of
the canyon! Walk down to the canyon floor wearing special "crampons"
to grip the ice. Your guide is a knowledgeable naturalist who
will provide explanations on the ancient fossils, enormous potholes,
underground stream outlets and beautiful ice falls that you will
see along the way.
